Highly recommend, everything freshly made on the premises - the plum ice-cream was probably the nicest ice-cream I've had in a restaurant, served along their homemade frangipani, the steak was cooked to perfection and the service was spot on

Very professional outfit. Have been coming here for years. Constant high standards. The food is fresh and tasty and beautifully presented. Without the snobiness that other establishments like to convey. Excellent fish soup my , favourite dish on the starter menu. A favourite with ither professional chefs too. 5 stars . Staff are super professional too. Never been disappointed yet with the wines we have chosen. This restaurant is a little bit of heaven.

it was my birthday treat and I was so looking forward to the experience but although my starter and sweet courses were completely delicious my main course was, I felt, rather bland.
I chose the fish and the description sounded very appealing but none of the food on my plate was tasty!
both the staff and restaurant were excellent.

Lovely little restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Was driving through the town and we were starving. We decided to check this place out and what a lovely surprise it was.
They had a 2 or 3 course lunch menu on offer and we selected the vegetarian options from the list. The food was delicious, generously proportioned and the manager went out of the way and accommodated a further request from us to deliver a pasta dish for our kids.
Highly recommend this place and if we ever venture this way again, we will definitely visit.

We met with friends for a meal. The first table we were allocated was located in a room with flickering lamps. This immediately caused my wife discomfort due to her photo sensitivity. We asked if anything could be done and was told no that's the way the lights work. Eventually we were offered a seat in a separate room which was much better but had music blasting. We asked if anything could be done about the loud music and they agreed to turn it off. The menu was limited to a choice of about five starters, five mains and five deserts and was a fixed price. The starters were nice and the main course was satisfactory and the dessert was nice. But was it worth £54 per person for food? Not really I'd had better food for half the price elsewhere.. we still had a great evening but that was because of the company rather than the food.

Had no idea this little gem of a restaurant existed until my wife discovered it online. Now my favourite, just a shame I live an hour away. I will definitely be recommending to anyone who will listen.

Went for a birthday meal. Had a wonderful time. Arrived early and there were no issues. Very happy to accommodate my working assistance dog and my prospect puppy as they too raise guide dog puppies in their family. Great selection of food and drink. Really reasonable price. Wonderful service. Thank you!

This place was amazing! Went last night for our 3 year anniversary and the food was phenomenal and the staff and service were just as good, they catered for my partner who has a seed oil allergy and ensured he didn't have to miss out, I will 100% be back 😁

We went here for a romantic meal for two while on holiday. We found it by mistake while looking for good local pubs to eat at and this really stood out on Google by the reviews and photos.
The service was good and the staff wete warm and welcoming. We asked to move seats for just preference and this was no trouble for the waitress.
We had lovely bread while we waited and my partner enjoyed a spicy bloody Mary.
We both had beef shin ragu for starter and the rich flavour was incredible.
I had the sirloin steak for main while my partner had seabass, which was a stand-in for monkfish and they'd just sold out of.
My steak with beef dripping chips was amazing. I would say it was the best sirloin I'd had cooked for me ever, as I usually prefer rib-eye or fillet but this was cooked to perfection and a lovely cut of steak. The chips were also some of the best I have ever had.
Highly recommend this place. It's not cheap but it's great food and worth it for a memorable night out.

My husband and I had another absolutely first class meal at the Y Polyn, last Friday. This restaurant strikes the perfect balance between quality and informality, and is very accommodating on dietary requirements. This isn't a cheap option, but it's worth the money. Thank you Y Polyn!

With a welcoming decor, friendly and welcoming staff. Having attended on a weekend we had the set menu, all the dishes sounded quite delicious and there was something for everyone. For the main menu we all went for the steak and beef dripping chips which was quite delicious. For desert we enjoyed creme brulee and warm pear frangipan tart. The food was of excellent quality, local ingredients and a varied menu. There was an extensive wine list; we had an Italian pint grigio.

Came to Y Polyn on Thursday night and had a 3 course meal. First impressions were great - the evening sun was coming through a lovely double height window in the bar area and in the distance we could see sheep grazing, adding to the country feel.
Started with crab and taglietelle which was fresh and peppery, perfect after a day at the beach. Then went for the lamb hotpot with dauphinoise potato - this side dish was amazing - buttery, oozing with naughtiness and addictive (thanks Y Polyn I won't forget it in a hurry.) Then had the Frangipane for dessert which was very nearly just as good.
All in all, and having been lucky enough to go to a few very good restaurants in the area recently, I would say that Y Polyn is right up there (but cheaper!) The food feels considered and cared for - for example, the taglietelle was warm - not left under a heat lamp I suspect - and the seasoning was just right, not too spicy. And the desert tasted fresh, not pulled from a multi-day fridge.
Fresh, loved and tasty food in decent portions.

Cannot fault a single thing. We stumbled across this place while on holiday & it was probably the best surprise of the holiday… From the moment we walked in we we’re looked after, they accommodated the dog in the bar area and sat us at a nice table tucked away! Free homemade bread (which was probably the best bread I’ve ever had in my life) and sparkling water set the tone for what was to follow… which was the most sensational pork belly ragu. It was a taste sensation!!!!
I blinked, and a new drink was next to me. Bloody magic!
Within 4 micro seconds of finishing, our licked plates were removed and we were on the edge of our seats ready for the next course.
Within a few minutes, it was delicately placed in front of us and we were immediately excited.
Pork loin and my partner had steak pie. I had to tell myself to put the knife and fork down every few seconds to stop myself looking like Oliver Twist.
However, all of this amounted to nothing when believe it or not, the star of the show for me was literally, the chips. I shi* you not, you’ve never had chips like it. And trust me when I tell you, I love a chip. These beef dripping chips have excited more to me in 10 seconds than the hustler under my dads bed did as a teenage boy.
If this restaurant wasn’t 4.5 hours away from our home, I’d remortgage my house and come here every day for lunch and dinner.
The only thing I’d like to add is to make sure you bring cash with you, because you’d be an idiot not to tip these amazing people.

Fabulous evening with friends. Food was excellent, well presented and wonderful flavours. The restaurant is thoughtfully laid out with a good ambience. Staff very attentive, informative and friendly.... altogether a lovely evening and we will return .

What a find for a gluten/dairy free person! I had lots of choice, making the staff aware on booking over the phone and then on arrival they didn't need reminding which was a lovely touch. They were knowledgeable and attentive for intolerances/allergies.
I had the celeriac to start (pictured) which hadn't needed to be adapted too much for me (was offered a choice of 2/4 starters) and then the salmon as a main (3/6 mains could be adapted). The GF/DF dessert was also a delicious nut crumble with vegan ice cream. All in all so pleased!
My other half enjoyed his blue steak, and Ragu for start. Both of us were left comfortably full - portion sizes were perfect to not feel overly stuffed at the end.
The staff were amazing, it was a shame we couldn't give them a tip via our card as it was cash only (I haven't carried cash in years) and they definitely deserved one!
The atmosphere felt special and rustic, definitely an evening out to remember.

Visited multiple times for large family meals and have loved each one. The staff are always polite and helpful and the food is superb!
They can easily cope with large parties and it doesn't seem to get in the way of great food and service.
Parking can get tricky but it is worth it.
On our most recent visit my autistic son wanted a drink and the bar staff were so helpful it made his day.

Wonderful lunch yesterday. Every mouthful a treat. They change the menu weekly. Chicken terrine and beetroot salad, mackerel with salad nicoise and a baked strawberry cheesecake.

Second time coming to Y Polyn, and once again, an incredible meal. The descriptions on the menu do not do the food justice when it is then presented to you - absolutely stunning! The service was sublime as well - take note that Tips are cash only.

To be perfectly honest, our visit to Y Polyn restaurant was a bit of a mixed bag. While we appreciated the pleasant interior and the attentive service, we were disappointed by the food preparation.
Although the dishes looked promising, each one seemed to be lacking that extra something - whether it was overcooked or needed more flavor. For a restaurant with such potential, especially in this area of Wales, it was a letdown.
In addition to the food, our seating by the boiling hot radiator affected the atmosphere negatively, detracting from our overall enjoyment of the meal. We believe that if Y Polyn wants to justify its prices, they need to elevate the quality of their food and consider the comfort of their guests when assigning seating.
Overall, while there were some positives, our experience fell short of expectations. We hope that Y Polyn takes this feedback into consideration to improve in the future.
